So today is a very special day for me.
And I would like to describe a very special incident which is very close to my heart that is - Chipko movement / Chipko andolan.

Chipko movement is a forest conservation movement which was started in 1970 at the foothill of Himalayas ( Uttarakhand).
It was a very popular movement world wide. It became an example of how to do a non violent protest. It was an eco friendly protest to protect tress and it was against deforestation. The word chipko means 'to hug ' or 'to cling to '. It meant to protect trees by hugging trees.
Famous leaders - Gaura devi, Chandi prasad bhatt, Suraksha devi, bachani devidevi , Sunder lal bahuguna, Govind singh rawat , Ghanshyam raturi ( chipko poet).
Historical Background - Chipko type movement also took place in 1730 AD when in village Prasanna khamkar of Rajasthan , 363 Bishnois sacrificed their life to save khejri tree.

Importance -
Ecofriendly movement, women participation was very high, non violent protest, resulted into saving of a lot of 🌲🌳🌴.
